Sombrero Resist Story Students will examine the art of Diego Rivera and discuss how artwork, like a literary work, often reveals deeper meaning. Students will learn that the sombrero has become a cultural symbol of Mexico, and is often used in traditional Mexican celebrations. The sombrero will become a canvas to celebrate their own story through the use of line, shapes, symbols and patterns. Resource Book:
Mexican Folk Art Sombrero Students will be introduced to Mexican Folk Art to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Students will create a sombrero by successfully drawing the shape of the sombrero and drawing 7 different line patterns on it. Students will trace the sombrero and draw the lines using crayon and paint it using watercolors. Students will also cut it out and embellish the sombrero with yarn.
